Logan and Hannah are married!

Beautiful day, starting in Oakwood Resort in Syracuse,  and ending at Bread and Chocolate in Goshen, IN.  Since Logan and Hannah are from Cali, it was first time meeting, but they immediately made me feel at home and great about photographing the wedding. I love the first look location with the lake in the background and there were so many photogenic moments throughout the day.  Congrats guys! It was an honor to be there.

Kaitlyn and Matt are married!

We had so much fun wandering around Elkhart for, Matt and Kaitlyn's engagement session, that I knew the wedding would be great as well.  It did not disappoint.  There were tons of fun elements like a grandmother's pearls, and wedding Keds, which makes my job easy, and I loved Kaitlyn's freewheeling attitude to the whole day.  Enjoy the blog!

Matt and Emilie are married!

Matt has been in my music circles for a long time.  It's been more than 10 years ago that I was recording his band, and probably 15 years since he was hanging out at the same shows we were playing, so it was an honor to head back down to Dayton and photograph his wedding.
I loved getting to know Emilie a bit too.  She was a so genuine about her excitement to get married, and there was a touching sincerity that was apparent in both of their vows.  On top of that, they picked a stunning venue.  I had a blast photographing this wedding, and I hope you enjoy the photos.

Dan and Lindsey are married - Grant Beachy Photo

Wedding number 2 in the books.  I know you are supposed to have lots of flowery descriptions to help with blog SEO but there's a reason I'm a photographer, not a writer.  Sometimes it's easier to describe with photos, and let them do the talking.  Congrats guys.  I was happy to be there.

Jess and Aaron are married!

Starting 2018 strong with Jess and Aaron :-).  After having a blast with them at their engagement session I was really looking forward to this one.  I loved the bridal cape that Jess wore, and it worked perfectly to give the chilly day a bit of a fantasy feel.  A great way to start the year!

Adam and Liz are married!

Final wedding of 2017 AND the first wedding of 2018!   Had a fantastic time hanging out with old and new friends in Defiance, Ohio, and it was a beautiful time.  I loved being able to ring in the New Year with you all!

Best of 2017 - Everything Else

It's a tricky thing to go through 30 thousand non-wedding photos that I kept this year, and even trickier to narrow it down.  In the end though, I picked ones that brought back a twang when I passed over them - ones that had a story or a feeling.  Each of these quick glimpses, brings back a much longer story, or a much longer setup.  Some of these had no build-up, and some had hours of preparation, but the common thread is that the ability to recognize moments has been a labor of love, and that labor is not nearly complete.
At the end of each year, I try to decide where to go next.  I look at photos from the year previous and try to find trends that I like, and trends that I don't like.  One thing I think I've seen from 2017's photos is that they feel quieter to me.  It may be a reaction to the uncertain noise in the national scene.  It may be a maturing, but even if you are mature, there are times to be quiet and there are times to be heard.  I hope to be given the wisdom to know the difference at the time that it is needed.
This year started with a project called "The Listening Project".  I met with and made new friends, and honestly tried to put the photography in the back seat in place of conversation.  For someone who likes to talk, and also likes to photograph, it was both a simple project and a hard one, but it did teach me that I haven't been great at listening to people that I photograph.  I focused on that more this year, and will continue to work on refining it.  I think 2018 will be a year of listening too, but instead of just clients, I want to also listen to other creatives.  I've always wanted to learn from old masters, and I've read their books and wished more were around, but there are always newcomers, and while their ideas haven't been refined over years of practice, they are able to bring fresh raw thoughts that haven't been beaten down.  This year that I want to be able to recognize that, and listen to people who approach the process differently than I do.
We live in a hurry.  We consume in a hurry and with that can lead to a skimming of things that go much deeper.  I won't claim that all these photos are deep, or mean more than they appear to, but many do.  If you have the time, feel free to hang out a bit. Meander (I like that word), and as always, thanks for being the other half in my artistic collaboration.

Best of Weddings 2017 - Grant Beachy Photo

Did a little surf back through weddings and picked a few photos. These weren't all my most technical photos, or all perfect poses, but the memories of these times made me happy. The memories are the value anyway. Man, you guys rock. It was such an honor to be there on these days you put so much love into. Thank you.

Skye and Dillon are married.

One of the shortest and still most visually rich weddings I've shot all year.  Skye and Dillon brought an understated and simple style that worked perfectly to project an old Hollywood feel.  I decided to shoot it that way.  Bread and Chocolate was a perfect venue to help me achieve that goal.
